Harry Potter

Harry Potter (2001-2011) is a series of film adaptations of J. K. Rowling’s beloved books. There are eight films based on seven books, as the last film was split into two parts. It follows the story of three friends, Harry, Hermione, and Ron, as they go to a school of magic called Hogwarts, fight evil, and grow older over the years.

Creating a fantastic world full of magic has required a lot of work. Hogwarts is meant to be a castle in Scotland but in reality, it doesn’t exist. What is shown in the older films is a model from a studio in Leavesden. Moreover, there were new parts added to the school as new films were made, such as the Astronomy Tower.

Along with Harry, Hermione, and Ron, there are many other characters and hundreds of children attending the school. There were around six hundred school uniforms created for the cast. Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, used around sixty copies of wands and one hundred sixty pairs of glasses.

Famous Paintings

The Starry Night

The Starry Night is a painting from 1889 by the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. It is an oil on canvas painting which shows the night sky. Although it is one of his most famous works, he considered it to be a failure, which, in part, reflects his mental state at the moment.

Van Gogh painted this work while he was in a mental hospital after he had a breakdown and famously cut his ear off. The picture is inspired by the view he had from his room, but it is not precisely what he could see. Rather than that, it is a combination of previous twenty-one sketches that he created in various places.

The painting is not realistic, it is Post-Impressionist. That means that what was important for van Gogh was the feeling and the geometric forms depicted by using a lot of paint and bright colours. But even if it is not realistic, real things can be recognised in it. Among the moon and the other stars in the painting is a star that is much brighter than the others. It is actually not a star, but Venus, also known as the Morning star.
